Poem Analysis:
To begin, this poem isn't any mundane poem, in fact, it uses figures of speech in the beginning to make his point; however, you have to sort of read between the lines in order to fully grasp what he is talking about. The poem, tells the story of a drug addicted man, who struggles with getting his self clean. He explores the fact that he has baggage that stems from his drug addiction. |
Literary Devices:
The main literary device used in this poem was an idiom, which occurred in the third stanza. The stanza reads,"Rumi says no donkey is a virgin, no, nor any beast that bites the grass. Maybe it sounds better in Persian. An unseen force propels the carts across the Whole Foods parking lot." This would be considered an idiom, because the diction used suggests that the setting is in a particular; also the author used Whole Foods, which isn't everywhere so everyone wouldn't be familiar with this setting. |
