Poetry Analysis:
Anna Swir, the author, spent the majority of the poem focusing in on the 'whats if's' of life. What I mean, is she creates the idea that she can stop herself from being; what is she wasn't a woman of society. In turn, all that a woman of a typical society does, would now not apply to her. She briefs over a few of the average professions of women, and continues to back track though history until the time of Adam and Eve. Eventually, she is as far back as she can go and history is now over. From those five minutes of birth, she was able to go back centuries before. |
Literary Devices:
Throughout this poem, 'Woman Unborn', Anna Swir chooses to take a much more different approach, in comparison to other writers. One would notice almost immediately, the allusions along with the use of a cliche in the beginning," Here is to Romanticism where I could have been a spinster, here is to the Renaissance where I could have been an ugly woman unloved wife with an evil husband, The middle Ages, where I could have carried water in a tavern." Anna Swir, concludes with all that she could have been, yet she was not. POEM LINK: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/178366 |
