Poem Analysis:
In the poem, 'To Begin', Aime Cesaire has determined that as one century ends, instead of new ways of life and customs, often others from previous centuries and decades repeats themselves. While to those experiencing these new repeats of culture for the first time, they may seem interesting , others who have already witnessed these events are able to easily spot the obvious re-occurrence of traditions. |
Figurative Language:
The figurative language used in this poem may not have been as easy to point out, however, it was possible to do. I noticed that the author used a paradox in the beginning, which at first contradicted itself, but as I continued to read I saw it really had some truth to the statement. For example, in the very last two lines it says, " ...the last delusion like he perfect mask of death." Despite there not being many other figurative languages, the author makes her point quite clear with the ones she does include in the poem.
